First Impressions: Padua

As I write this, I have been in Padova for just over twenty four hours, and these photos were taken even before that mark. One of the first things that you do when you’re in a new place is to have a walk around, and that is exactly what I did this morning, of course deciding to take my camera.

The pictures aren’t perfect; it was bright, which made it difficult for me to see if some of them were in focus, and sometimes mother nature gets the better of me with the lighting. But that’s the thing about being in a new place; you can't make out what's around you clearly. You feel somewhat overwhelmed by your surroundings which are all completely unfamiliar, and you gradually piece together what is what and where is where. The places and landmarks you will later see as significant aren’t yet, and instead you find yourself enchanted by something as simple as the tiling of a roof. For that brief moment, we see place for what it really is before our opinions and experiences replace our original perception with how we will continue to see a place.

My first experience of Padova may have been hazy and fast and a lot to take in, but it was wonderful and I am fast falling in love with this little city. I can’t wait to call it my home for the next five months and share it with you!
