On Turning 21

Truth be told, my 21st was a couple of months ago now. But when my parents threw me a surprise 21st party last week, it made me think about turning 21 all over again. I had an amazing time celebrating, and I was so grateful to everyone to joined me in Paris but I have never felt as special as I did just a few nights ago.

When I found out that my 21st birthday was going to fall during my year abroad, I was a little concerned. Still, I was keen to try and make this one a success. After all, you only turn 21 once, right?! Having said this, I was lucky enough to have three celebrations in my honour.

Some Pierre Hermé macarons sent over to Paris by my parents started off the celebrations the day before my birthday. It's just as well they found their way to the office where I work on time, because my birthday itself was spent at Disneyland Paris with my boyfriend. I could hardly pass up the chance while I was living just an hour away now, could I?!

Unfortunately I didn't take my big girl camera along for that one, but I did get a few fun snaps of my birthday meal on Saturday. We enjoyed South American tapas including a dessert platter that was to die for at a restaurant called Barrio Latino. It certainly had a Parisian price tag, but I would really recommend a trip there if you're ever in the city.

After my gifts and treating myself to some 21st birthday goodies, I thought that the birthday celebrations were over. That was until, when on my way to what I thought was a meal out, I found dozens of my friends from throughout my childhood waiting to surprise me! This included two friends from the time that I spent living in America ten years ago who had flown over from where they now live in Scotland to celebrate with me. Let's just say that tears ensued.

My birthday this year really was a dream come true and I want to thank every single person who had a part to play in my celebrations. I may not have many photos of the things that I did to celebrate (which is unusual for me), but I've never felt so special. I feel so loved and can't thank everyone enough.

It had absolutely nothing to do with the presents that I received. Knowing that my parents and boyfriend went into so much trouble to create something that made me feel so loved was an incredible feeling, and everyone taking the effort to be there was truly awesome. Feeling this loved has to be the best feeling in the world. I hope that I can carry that knowledge with me as I slowly keep on turning into a grown up. Maybe being a twenty-something won't be so bad after all?

I want to say another HUGE thank you to my parents and boyfriend for everything that they have done for me, and continue to do for me.
I am the luckiest 21-year-old in the world <3
