Chocolat Chaud chez Angelina

When I asked around in Paris to find out where the best place for a chocolat chaud (hot chocolate) would be, there only seemed to be one word on everyone's lips: Angelina's. As somebody who isn't a big coffee drinker, it's almost criminal that I left it so long to visit. To be honest, if my friends hadn't pestered me into coming, I may not have made it there at all.

Luckily two of my friends, Phil and I braved the winding queue on rue de rivoli and dined in style in one of Paris' most famous cafés. If the prestigous location isn't enough of a clue, then the beautiful window displays certain tell you that you're in for a treat. The hot chocolate is served gold-rimmed jugs with chantilly cream. Throw your Nesquick aside, because this is a different breed. Think more rich, thick chocolate fondue that slowly trickles into your mug making your mouth water. It really is in a league of its own.

Despite the hefty price tag, we couldn't pass up the chance to dine in such a beautiful setting. Phil and I shared a chicken club sandwich which actually came with chips. Call us boring, but this was one of the best club sandwiches I've ever had. It's not quite in the same category as a Joey from Friends meaty, saucy dealio, but it's lovely and light while still filling you up nicely. Exactly what you need after a pint of creamy chocolatey richness.

I think that what made the experience all the more special was the Christmas setting outside. Not everywhere makes an effort with Christmas decorations in Paris, but this was an exception. Just down the road were the Christmas markets at the Champs Elysées, and the afternoon had to be one of my highlights of Christmas in Paris. Save your pennies, but don't miss the chance to pass an afternoon in such a special Parisian setting.

What's the best hot chocolate that you've ever tasted? What was your favourite Christmas memory from this Christmas?
