It's been a little while since I've done a face of the day, so when I whipped out some summer makeup this weekend I decided to show you some of the staples I used to create my look. The fact that the products used are gorgeous to photograph certainly helps! This is the makeup that I wore on Saturday (check my last post to see what I was up to!), and I wanted a base that was dewy but not too heavy. For this, I decided to mix Nars Sheer Glow and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser for a natural-looking glow as well as some SPF protection. Both foundations can be built up to a fairly high coverage, but I went for a light-medium coverage on this particular day.

To make my skin look even more healthy I added a little colour with my Tarte blush, which I went over with my 17 Shimmer Brick. This is a brand spanking new product for me, and it really reminded me of a Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick. For only £5 it was never going to match the quality, but it did add a lovely sheen to my cheeks. I'm still not quite sure on how to feel about the product overall, though.

I wanted a fun eye that wasn't too dramatic, so I used the pinky taupe shade from my Rimmel quad over my lid with the light gold in my inner corner, then I used a mix of Woodwinked by Mac and a matte brown in outer corner/crease. Woodwinked has to be the ultimate summer shade for the richness and depth of the colour - I'd almost forgotten how much I loved it! I always feel super done-up with a black liner, so instead I decided to draw a very thin line with my Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes pencil. This one is a beautiful turquoise shade which is perfect for summer and complements the gold tones beautifully.

Of course this was finished off with a decent coating of mascara, a little concealer and my current favourite lipstick from YSL. I think I'm going to have to dedicate a whole post to this one; it's been a long time coming! I didn't get a chance to photograph it, but for me summer always means whipping out Essie's Mint Candy apple. It's one of my all-time favourite shades, and perks up any simple makeup or outfit.

I personally love the look and know that I will be going back to it throughout the summer. If you want to find out more about any of the products mentioned, then all of their links can be found underneath the photos and as always feel free to ask me any questions!

What's your favourite summer makeup product?
