Review // 17 Lip Crayons

I was lucky enough to get some 17 Lip Crayons in a Christmas gift set last year, but it was only a few weeks ago that I really started to use them. If I'm honest, 17 wasn't a brand that I had seen much of, so they got pushed to the side a little bit. This meant that when I did come to pull them out last month, I was pleasantly surprised with the result. It is not clear from the 17 website as to whether or not these precise colours are available, but I still thought that they would be worth reviewing as 17 do supply a range of this product year-round.

The first lip crayon that I was drawn to of the four that I own was the mid-toned pink. I was really loving those sorts of colours at the time, but pretty soon it was the formula that was impressing me more than anything else. I'd say that these fall somewhere between a lipstick and a gloss. They are solid like a lipstick, but the consistency is a lot thinner and they give a really glossy finish. When applying this means that they glide on really easily, but you do have to pay attention that you are staying within the outline of your lips due to the crayon-style nib. For longevity, this product doesn't get 10/10 but the deep red colour lasts on me for two hours before I have to reapply. Considering when I tested this I had been enjoying some nibbles, I don't think that's bad for something with such a thin consistency at all.

Now let's talk about the colours. As I already mentioned, I have four of them. As far as I can tell they don't have any names, but I would describe them as a deep reddish pink, a mid-toned candy pink, a pale gold and a pale, cool pink. I definitely prefer the two darker colours and feel like I will get more use out of them, but that's not to say that I won't use the pale ones. I felt like they looked a little too pale worn alone, so I decided to use them as a lip highlight. As you can see in the pictures above, I used them over another lipstick for some added gloss to add a three-dimensional effect and make my lips look fuller. The other good thing about the colours available is that they can be muted down to a lip tint, or build up a little more without highlighting any dry bits on your lips too much because it's so gosh darn creamy. For a brand that I didn't expect too much from I'm also really impressed with the pigment.

Overall I'm thrilled to find these fun products coming from a brand that I hadn't heard much about before. It sounds as though 17 are really upping their game! Depending on how long these last, I would also be interested to see what other colours are available in the range.
