Valentine's Eve // Prep & Prime Routine

You know when you've got something you're really looking forward to? So much so that you drag out the prep session to a whole day before you even need to get ready...? There's something really therapeutic about taking the time out for yourself and getting excited for the next day to come. For me - and for quite a few others - today is one of those days.

I'm not talking about sleeping in a full face of makeup now that would be ridiculous, I'm talking about the prep work. Like baking a delcious cake and leaving it to cool before you start the decorating. And you are the cake. Moving on... Here are the products that I'll be using to primp and preen myself in preparation for Valentine's Day, so that I'm feeling fab. I know that not everybody really celebrates Valentine's Day, but this is a great way to feel super prepared and pampered before a party, or it can make for a nice little night in. Why shouldn't we treat ourselves from time to time just because?!

The first thing that I'll be doing is hopping into a nice hot shower. There's nothing like jumping in a shower after a stressful day to take away your trouble/remnants of mascara. You can pop a layer of Embroylisse Lait-Creme Concentré on a full face of makeup, and it will literally melt the makeup off your face. I like to use a flannel to really work it off. Of course this can be substituted for your favourite cleanser. I'll also take this opportunity to wash my hair and have a shave - not one, but two less things to worry about in the morning!

When you're fresh out the shower, you're going to want to take the opportunity to pluck any other unwanted hairs. The warm air in the shower opens up the pores which will make it less painful and easier on the skin. I like to use my Tweezerman Slant Tweezers. They're really precise, and even when I've used them on friends they've said that it's virtually painless. At this point I like to continue with the rest of my skincare routine. I'm trying out a few new products at the moment, it's nice to break out of your regular routine from time to time. But before I reach for my moisturiser, I'll be sure to give my skin ten minutes with the Origins Clear Improvement Face Mask. For me, this reduces redness and gives my skin the push it needs to calm down on a bad skin day.

On this occasion the love hearts are not optional...

While this is drying on my face I'll pay a bit of attention to my hair. I suffer from quite brittle ends, so hair oil is a must. I've been using K Pak Colour Therapy Restorative Styling Oil on my hair for the past six months and it's made a huge difference. I'll even run one pump through my ends when they're dry is they're looking frizzy. After a comb through and working my mask off with a warm flannel, I move onto the limbs. What I do now will depend entirely on whether or not I am fake tanning. It's no secret that I'm fairly pale, and I'm normally happy to stick with that but on the odd occasion it is fun to add a bit of a summer glow - especially when everything else outside is so miserable. I'm a die hard St Tropez Bronzing Mousse fan, but if you're self tanning it's important to have exfoliated/shaved/moisturised a few hours before. Make sure you've finished washing your face, brushing your teeth and doing absolutely everything else before you go near a bottle of fake tan. When you are ready, my top tips would be to make sure your hair is tied back (loosely if it's still wet), lay some towels out on your bed and use a tanning mit.

If, on the other hand you opt for some deep moisturisation, I would highly recommend the Di Palomo White Grape Dry Oil. This stuff is really versatile (I've used it on my hair too) but it's ideal for thirsty skin, and doesn't involve the faff of splatting half a tub of cold body butter across yourself and spending the next hour picking it out from under your nails. Gross. Simply spritz all over, massage in and inhale the gorgeous scent. For further moisturising richness, slather your face with a good layer of the Lait-Creme Concentré and leave to sit over night. You may not wake up with the same golden hue that St Tropez gives you, but will surely be glowing from head to toe!

I hope that this post will give you a few ideas of how to make the most of the evening before the big night whatever you're doing. I hope that you all have a fantastic Valentine's Day, even if it is just another Friday night!

Do you have a 'night before' beauty regime?
